bitcoin
Garrett Heath is a technology storyteller with Rackspace. The meteoric rise of Bitcoin’s value—from a low of $13 to upwards of $1000 in 2013—caused the general public to take notice of this cryptocurrency. Once relegated to tech circles, last year saw major economists discussing the digital currency, international governments questioning its legitimacy and speculation on well-known hedge funds acquiring it in their portfolios. Last year was truly the coming out party for Bitcoin. But is the time right for businesses and e-commerce sites to begin accepting it as a method of payment? “We see a range of emotions towards Bitcoin adoption in the…

Fifteen months after it launched iTunes in Turkey, Apple has finally revealed a date for its bricks-and-mortar retail store in the country. While we’ve known it was coming for a while, Webrazzi reports that the outlet will be opening on April 5, in the garden of Zorlu Centre, Istanbul. Apple’s Istanbul Store ©Webrazzi Apple launched its first retail store in Brazil back in February, and given the timing of its simultaneous job postings for these countries back in 2012, it’s not surprising to see Turkey follow so soon after. ➤ Apple announces the opening date of its first Apple Store…

Cut the Rope 2 arrives on Android, as franchise downloads top 500 million

A few months after its App Store debut, developer ZeptoLab has released Cut the Rope 2 on Android. It’s a free download in the Google Play store and will be landing in the Amazon Appstore on March 30. The non-existent price tag is notable, given that it shipped for $0.99 on iOS last year. That’s likely representative of the higher number of app purchases in the App Store, and it’ll be interesting to see whether the new Android version includes any microtransactions to compensate. To cap off today’s Android release, ZeptoLab announced that the Cut the Rope franchise has passed…

1-iPad-and-iPhone-app
We brought you news on Blinkist back in January, a subscription service that helps you get to grips with books in fifteen minutes. It’s all about manual curation and condensing, as field experts with a passion for explaining complex matters provide abridged versions of non-fiction titles that can be read in around fifteen minutes. Thus far, Blinkist has only been available via the Web and iPhone/iPod touch, but with its latest update it now comes optimized for iPad too. Given the manual approach to populating Blinkist, at the time of writing it only features around 220 books, though it’s now adding…
