app store
Apple is increasing the price of iOS apps and content in the App Store in five countries, after the company emailed developers explaining the adjustments, which are being made due to changing exchange rates. From April 1, customers that shop in the App Store using the Australian Dollar, Indian Rupee, Indonesian Rupiah, Turkish Lira or South African Rand will see prices rise, though Apple doesn’t state exactly how much higher they will be. It isn’t all bad news, however. “Retail prices for Israeli New Shekels and some price tiers for the New Zealand Dollar will be decreased,” Apple explains. Unfortunately for those affected, this is not…

Samsung and HTC ‘unveil’ the same April Fools’ Day products: tech gloves

sammyhtc
It’s quite telling of the current obsession with wearable tech that HTC and Samsung have both unveiled similar new products today: tech gloves. (Yes, it’s officially April 1 in Asia so you can expect to see more tech industry jokes than you care to know about.) Samsung is one of the first out of the blocks with Samsung Fingers, an “all-over-hand wearable device featuring a flexible Super Emo-LED for the technology-sensitive consumer.” Samsung Fingers is the slimmest (0.2mm) and lightest (1g) wearable glove by Samsung and comes with a wide 3 inch flexible UHD Super Emo-LED display. Combined with an advanced 16…

Apple has rolled out TD-LTE compatible models of its iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina display in China today, giving customers access to speedier cellular data networks on China Mobile, which runs this particular 4G standard. The iPad Air with Wi-Fi and cellular TD-LTE retails from CNY4,488 ($721) for the 16GB model to CNY6,588 ($1,060) for the 128GB model. The iPad mini with Retina display supporting Wi-Fi and cellular TD-LTE is selling from CNY3,788 ($609) for the 16GB model to CNY5,888 ($947) for the 128GB model. Chinese authorities issued 4G licenses to the three major telecommunication operators in the country last year, after Apple…

loop-3
Paying for goods at retail stores with our phones has been talked about for years, but mobile payment startup Loop is close to making it a reality. Its upcoming offerings, the $39 Loop Fob attachment and $99 Loop ChargeCase, will still be external to your phone when they arrive in late April, but the firm is working with manufacturers to include its technology in smartphones for as little as $1 per device. Loop works by using a transmitter to generate a small magnetic loop that can be used on traditional point-of-sale systems in lieu of swiping a credit card. To…

Mobile survey app Loop is now on Android to let companies create in-person polls on the go

Survey
Survey-making app Loop, previously available only for iOS devices, has now landed on Android in 135 countries and 34 languages. Loop lets companies create surveys entirely on a mobile device — without having to visit a website at all — and survey customers in-person. After a company downloads Loop onto an Android tablet or smartphone, it can choose among survey and question templates or create its own. Subsequently, it can survey people right on the spot — by presenting customers with the mobile device so they can respond immediately without having to download a separate app, scan a code or pull…
