"As part of Obama's Recovery spending boondoggle, Syracuse University was awarded $219,000 to study female hook-up patterns and found that 1/4 of all sexually active college-aged women have some kind of V.D., which in the Obamanation means 3/4 of sexually active college-aged women are still safe to sleep with." Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos addresses a press
It’s less than 24 hours before Amazon holds an event about its “video business” in New York. While rumors of a free video streaming service have recently surfaced, most expect the thrust of the announcement to be centered on a TV set-top box. It’s a brave new world for Amazon. The company has developed a wide range of services for consuming content, but so far its hardware efforts have been limited to e-readers and tablets. Set-top boxes and tiny streaming dongles are an entirely new realm for CEO Jeff Bezos and his massive e-commerce empire. But how does Amazon compete?…

coins
Bitcoin wallet firm Coinbase has responded to a challenge from a security researcher by calling a feature, which allows for the possible phishing of email addresses and names, intended, rather than a vulnerability. The company has also denied that any data breach took place after a list of apparent Coinbase emails and usernames showed up online. Researcher Shubham Shah published details of a Coinbase security risk on Monday after becoming frustrated with the company’s lack of communication about the issue. Shah discovered that he could send a series of emails requesting money from different address and receive back a response…

Paul Jarvis is a Web designer and bestselling author, who’s obsessed with nature and hairless rats. His latest book, Everything I Know, is a guide to freelancing as a creative professional. People assume that if they’ve heard of you, you must be raking it in. The theory goes something like this: If you work for yourself and make things that other people buy, your income magically skyrockets past what an average corporate job would pay. Many times, readers or people asking for website design quotes have told me, “Oh, but I’m not rich like you.” To which I look around my normal…

gmail
A decade ago today, Google announced Gmail. What at first seemed like it might be an April Fools’ joke turned out to be one of the best products the company has ever released. Sadly, 10 years on, it still hasn’t done enough to make email a pleasure to work with. With ever-expanding storage, search so good you could stop manually organizing emails into sub-sub-sub folders, a genuinely great spam filter, not to mention the kind of speed that was largely unheard of at the time for a Web app, Gmail was an instant hit. Gmail invites were a hot property…
