Google Street View is a fantastic resource for exploring far-flung parts of the world, but its colossal archive of panoramic photos can be daunting. Where do you go first? What should you be looking at? Where can you find out more? In a new project called Google Night Walk, the company has created an immersive tour through Cours Julien, a neighbourhood of Marseille, France. Just like an audio guide in a museum, narrators Julie and Christophe lead you across the city and point out places of interest. It’s immersive and educational, explaining the history and context behind Marseille’s landmarks. A mini-map in…

Leading Video Game Companies Hold News Conferences To Open E3
As Microsoft refocuses its messaging for the Xbox One around video games, Phil Spencer, the new Head of Xbox, today admitted the company made some missteps with its release last year. In an interview with Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hyrb, he suggested the company had made some poor choices over the last 12 months. “There are two sides to the ledger,” he said. “There is a lot of learning that I did as a leader in the organisation, when I just heard how our message resonated with people and some of the decisions that we made, that I think were actually the wrong…

Apple’s dominance as the top smartphone OEM in the US seems to have peaked at just above 41 percent. Samsung is taking advantage by gaining share faster than its main competitor, and hitting a new high at 27 percent. Rounding out the top five were LG, Motorola, and HTC. In the platform wars, Google remains at the top with Android, and Apple has taken second with iOS. While Google’s mobile platform has slipped multiple times last year, and started off losing share at the start of 2014, it has managed to outgain Apple’s platform. Rounding out the top five were…

The science of memory (and 4 uncommon ways to enhance it)

brain
This post originally appeared on the ooomf blog. I have a pretty bad memory, it seems. I know people say that all the time, but here’s why I think it actually applies to me: In pretty much all of my childhood memories, I’m around 10 years old, as if nothing ever happened before that. My poor co-founder, Josh, has to replay almost entire conversations before I recall having had them. On a regular basis. Unless my high school was running way off the curriculum, I just don’t remember anything I learned there. Everytime someone asks me about a high-school level concept…

Email inbox
Email may or may not have a long and prosperous future lying in wait, but for now it’s showing no real signs of weakening its grip on the enterprise. With that in mind, Front has been building a new desktop application geared towards making it easier to collaborate around emails with shared inboxes. Now, the concept of a shared inbox is, of course, nothing new. But Front is bringing a heap of productivity features into the mix too, that kind of make this more of an email-client/social network crossbreed. Front remains in invite-only, private beta mode for now, but we…
