British investors lost £27 million ($34.38 million) to cryptocurrency scams over the last financial year, according to one of the UK’s financial regulators. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) reports that between April 1, 2018 and April 1, 2019 the average loss per victim was £14,600 ($18,500). Reports of cryptocurrency scams also tripled over the same period. While last year there were X cases reported, the FCA notes the number has gone up to 1,800 this year. The FCA’s announcement states that fraudsters often used social media to promote “get-rich-quick” schemes. The FCA’s description of how these scammers rip off their victims…

Microsoft has officially announced a preview of its Microsoft Edge browser for the macOS. Microsoft originally unveiled plans for the browser at its annual BUILD developers conference held on May 6. The browser is based on Google’s open-source Chromium rendering engine, which also powers other popular browsers like Chrome, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi, among others. Microsoft has also added privacy features that allow you to choose between varying levels of tracking protection. Then…

Last night, TechCrunch reported that a massive database containing info of over 49 million Instagram influencers, celebrities, and brand accounts found in the open. Security researcher Anurag Sen found the growing database hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) without a password. As per the report, the data contained influencers’ Instagram handles, bios, verification status, location, email, and phone number. TechCrunch noted that the database belonged to ChtrBox, an Indian agency that pays influencers to post. The database also had calculation of how much an account is worth paying based on the number of followers and the likes they get on…

After a horrid 24 hours, there’s finally some respite for Huawei. The US Commerce Department has given the company a 90-day extension to provide support for existing handsets and network components.  The department has issued a “temporary general license ” to the company “necessary to maintain and support existing and currently fully operational networks and equipment, including software updates and patches, subject to legally binding contracts and agreements” that expires on August 19.  To recap, after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to ban Huawei last week, US tech companies like Google, Qualcomm, and Intel ceased business with the Chinese company over the…
