Despite the excitement currently surrounding blockchain, it seems supply chain managers are falling out of love with the decentralized technology. Procurement industry leaders discussed blockchain at the Supply Management Forum in London last week and spoke of how they are still waiting for the value of blockchain adoption to be proven. Organizations aren’t investing in blockchain technology yet because “It lacks practical application,” Supply Management Magazine (SMM) reports. Jaguar Land Rover’s global purchasing transformation director, Richard Harding, even said that he has not yet seen a blockchain use case enticing enough to make him invest his time into it. Some…

Stellar’s ‘decentralized’ blockchain crashed for 2 hours and nobody realized

Stellar’s blockchain suffered a “cascading failure” that halted transactions for roughly two hours on May 15. Breaking: yesterday the Stellar network went down for about 2 hours… only those who run validators noticed it. no new transactions were added for ~2 hours. network stats:https://t.co/eSRYFPjDQi — Tim Swanson (@ofnumbers) May 16, 2019 “What basically happened was that a critical mass of nodes went down causing a cascading failure and so the entire network went down but because it isn’t frequently used, few noticed,” tweeted Swanson, head of research at technology firm Post Oak Labs. The downtime was confirmed by a Stellar Foundation…

When it comes to speaker diversity, we’ve only scratched the surface

May16

We all live professional lives alongside people who look pretty different from one another. So, why is it that the conferences many of us frequent have stages that are manned by – well, men? All too often, I show up to a panel only to find that all of the speakers are male. As someone who’s worked with many strong female professionals over my two decades in the workforce, I know that there are many amply qualified women who would knock those panels out of the park – so the fact that they’re not being asked to do so is…

Google’s Titan Security Keys can be hijacked remotely, replace yours now

It’s not been a great week for security, and after Twitter, WhatsApp and Intel, Google has now joined the list. The internet giant has issued an advisory, stating it is recalling Bluetooth versions of its Titan Security Key after it found a vulnerability that allows attackers in close proximity to take control of the device. The issue, which affects all Titan Bluetooth keys that have a “T1” or “T2” on the back, has been deemed serious enough that it’s willing to offer a free replacement for those who purchased them. If you are one among those affected, you can head…

Samsung has reportedly sorted the Galaxy Fold’s screen problems

May16

Last month, Samsung faced a wave of criticism when review units of its ambitious Galaxy Fold phone started to break down. Now, according to Korean media outlet Yonhap, the company’s made some improvements, and is testing the units with mobile carriers in South Korea. Some units’ screens cracked or were damaged because reviewers peeled off the protective layer above the screen. Samsung failed to effectively communicate that the protective layers shouldn’t be removed. There were also issues with the sturdiness of the hinge holding the two parts of the screen. The Korean giant had to eventually cancel all pre-orders and postpone the…
