Photo journaling app Sunlit no longer requires an App.net account

Sunlit, the impressive photo journaling app for iOS that we wrote about in January, has responded to the disappointing news around App.net this week, and now allows users to log in using Flickr. The app had initially required an App.net account. Although it is no longer a requirement, connecting Sunlit to an account on App.net is the only way to unlock advanced features, such as syncing, in-app social sharing and collaborations with multiple users. Manton Reece, the developer behind Sunlit, explains on his blog that he still believes in the App.net developer tools and community, calling it “too good a platform to give up on.” Nonetheless,…

Gaana, the Bollywood and Western music streaming service focused on India, has gotten a significant update for its iOS and Android apps, which now both include music videos and lyrics for songs. Version 4.0 of the app also includes discounted download rates for subscribers to Gaana+, its premium subscription service that is available as one, three, six and 12 month plans. Music videos aren’t available for all of the three million songs on Gaana, but those that are supported include a grey camera icon. The app has also undergone a slight redesign to bring the favorite and download categories to a more…

Bitly published an urgent security warning on Thursday explaining that it suspects that users’ account credentials have been compromised. The company noted that it has no evidence of unauthorized access to any accounts, but it disconnected users’ Facebook and Twitter accounts just to be sure. Users should take the following steps to reset their OAuth tokens, API keys, password and then reauthorize connected applications: 1) Log in to your account and click on ‘Your Settings,’ then the ‘Advanced’ tab. 2) At the bottom of the ‘Advanced’ tab, select ‘Reset’ next to ‘Legacy API key.’ 3) Copy down your new API…

Apple reportedly close to acquiring Beats Electronics for as much as $3.2b

A new report from Financial Times claims that Apple is close to signing a $3.2 billion acquisition deal for Beats Electronics that would bring both its headphones business and its new streaming music service into the fold. The agreement has yet to be finalized, but the report claimed that an announcement could come as early as next week. The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and re/code have corroborated the report. If true, the acquisition would be an unusually large one for Apple, which has tended to avoid billion-dollar deals. Apple CEO Tim Cook did tell the Journal in February that…
