Ahead of Alibaba’s IPO, rival and Tencent partner JD.com raises $1.78b in US IPO

E-commerce in China has been thrust into the global limelight, as people all over the world eye Alibaba’s public offering, which is expected to rank as the largest tech IPO to date. Ahead of Alibaba’s IPO though, its rival JD.com announced that it has raised $1.78 billion in its US IPO. The online retailer sold 93,685,620 American Depositary Shares at $19 each and will be making its debut when NASDAQ opens for trading later today. Bloomberg says that this makes JD the largest ever offering of a Chinese internet firm’s IPO in New York. However, this will almost certainly be eclipsed soon…

Google Fiber says it won’t make money off peering and colocation agreements from Netflix and others

Google on Wednesday offered a behind-the-scenes look at its peering and colocation policies for Google Fiber. In the post, the company revealed that it lets Netflix and content delivery network Akamai place their own content servers in Google’s facilities in order to create a “win-win-win” situation for itself, partners and customers. Much has been made of Netflix’s paid peering agreements with Comcast and Verizon. Google releases Dart SDK 1.4 with new Observatory tool for looking inside running virtual machines on demand

Google today released Dart SDK version 1.4 with a new Observatory tool that allows you to look inside a running Dart virtual machine on demand and see live reporting of data. It shows information about garbage collection, the instance count for all in-memory objects by their type, line-by-line code coverage, and evaluation of arbitrary expressions. Corel has released AfterShot Pro 2, an upgrade to its photo management and Raw conversion package, featuring 64-bit processing for a faster workflow, an assortment of new features, and a lower price. Available for Mac, Windows, and Linux, the software preserves original shots while facilitating non-destructive photo edits and adjustments.
