Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! While many creatures in the animal kingdom are born ready to take on the world, humans are not. A foal can stand-up and walk around within an hour of birth. But human babies? Those podgy meatsacks literally take years before they can walk around. Ugh, the Gregorian calendar is so boring. That’s why we’re disrupting monthly series with a lunar cycle-based series about the best patents of the last synodic month, picked by the PatentYogi team. Get ready when that moon gets gibbous, y’all. This May-ish roundup lands on the beautiful Flower Moon! Since my last post, the US patent office issued over 29,948 patents and published over 33,636 patent applications. Each patent asset adds a little something new to the human knowledge base. As I cannot list all these patent assets here, my team and I have selected the five most interesting patent assets.…

ByteDance, the world’s most valuable startup and the company behind popular apps like TikTok, has released a new app: Feiliao (飞聊). Or, if you translate it into English, Flipchat. The new app has a clever spin on instant messaging. It encourages users to create interest-based chat groups based on common hobbies, likes and preferences. A (rough) translation of its iTunes description reads: Fly chat is an interest-based social app. Here you will find familiar [features like] chat, audio and video calls. In addition, you can discover your friends in the interest group and share what’s fun; as well as share your…
