Quotable

"Life as a judge clearly made UN envoy Richard Goldstone a poor judge. Rumors are that Goldstone only retracted his findings once Israeli President Shimon Peres agreed to give him a tour of Israel and a quiet share of a very successful felafel stand, which he chose over a share of an Israeli hi-tech arms manufacturer." ~ Yasha Harari

Few places summon the trolls like movie reviews. After suffering through multiple cases of review-bombing – when trolls flood in with disproportionate negative reviews – Rotten Tomatoes wants to weed out the people who haven’t actually, you know seen the movie. Specifically, users will now be required to verify their ticket purchase for their votes to be counted in the new Audience Score: “Rotten Tomatoes now features an Audience Score made up of ratings from users we’ve confirmed bought tickets to the movie – we’re calling them “Verified Ratings.” We’re also tagging written reviews from users we can confirm purchased tickets…

Review: The Vuze XR handheld camera makes it dead simple to create VR videos

HumanEyes‘ Vuze XR is a rare breed of camera. It’s pocket-sized, shoots in VR, 360, and 5K formats, and it costs around the same as an entry-level DSLR. And the thought of making my own glorious, fully immersive, 180-degree family vacation videos that we can watch on our headsets – like the VR videos on YouTube – fills me with joy. But I’m neither a filmmaker nor a professional photographer. There’s only a handful of consumer-geared VR cameras out there (that don’t cost thousands) and…

Welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides, and advice on how to easily get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and other stuff. One of the advantages Android has over iOS is the control Google gives you over its operating system. Case in point is Android’s ‘developer options,’ a secret menu that provides all sorts of useful controls, including the ability to change animation speeds, choose a Bluetooth codec, or limit the number of apps that can run in the background – among many other things The only problem is the menu is hidden by default. Whether this…

The number of cyber attacks is estimated to have risen by 67% over the last five years, with the majority of these data breaches being traced back to human error. The potential risks of such attacks are vast and can have a serious impact on both organizations and individuals. But protecting ourselves against cyber security threats can be extremely complicated. Not only is the technology we use on a daily basis getting more complex, but attackers are constantly finding new ways to bypass security measures. Yet staying up to date with safety measures and new devices is not always practical.…
