Overswipe
Picture the scene: You’re guffawing over some photos you just took of your buddies larking around, and everyone now wants to see the hilarious snaps. You’re happy to hand your iPhone over, except you also have a bunch of other images on there you’d rather they didn’t see. It may scream FIRST WORLD PROBLEM, but it’s a quandary nonetheless. This is where Overswipe for iPhone wants to help, as it lets you choose which snaps are visible. Once you’ve given Overswipe permission to access your gallery, you tick each photo you’re happy to share, and then you hit ‘Display’. However,…

Google has announced that it will provide up to $50 million for organizations that can help encourage more girls to take an interest in computer science at an early age. Revealed as part of its newly launched Made with Code initiative, the cash will be used for things like “rewarding teachers who support girls who take CS courses on Codecademy orKhan Academy,” Susan Wojcicki said in a blog post today. Other aspects of the Made with Code scheme – which is also backed by other organizations like Girls Inc., Girl Scouts of the USA, MIT Media Lab and the National Center for Women &…

Mobile messaging company Line has denied that its database has been hacked, but called on users to change their password, as police in its native Japan investigate instances of unauthorized access on the service. The AFP reports that there have been over 300 incidents of user accounts accessed by third-parties, including three “that involved cash trades resulting in financial loss.” Despite those cases, a Line spokesperson confirmed to TNW that the company has not been hacked; it instead believes that poorly-secured passwords from other services are to blame. In a statement provided to TNW, Line said: Some cases have shown that personal information retrieved…

Codecademy, the New York-based startup behind the learn-to-code platform of the same name, has teamed up with Google and online charity DonorsChoose to get more high-school girls interested in and studying computer science. Google.org, the philanthropic arm of technology giant Google, has pledged $1 million to the cause. When a student completes one of the courses specially designed by Codecademy, they’ll receive $125 in “rewards” courtesy of DonorsChoose. As an extra bonus, teachers will earn $500 in rewards for the classroom when four of their students finish the module online. The setup is a little different to how DonorsChoose usually…
