Leicestershire Police will be the first force in the UK to conduct a six month trial of new facial recognition technology that promises to help identify individuals in just a few seconds. Called NeoFace, the system can compare any digital image (like CCTV or footage from body-worn cameras) with photos held on a police database – in this case, Leicestershire’s database containing information about more than 90,000 people. LeapTV
Children’s technology company LeapFrog has announced its latest product, a games console to promote learning while gaming. LeapFrog is aiming the LeapTV games console at 3-8 year-olds who may have their eyes on the likes of the Xbox and PS4, providing parents with a more suitable option. Paul McCartney is to re-release five of his original albums in the form of an iPad app, following suit from artists such as Lady Gaga. Band on the Run, McCartney, McCartney II, RAM and Wings over America have been turned into apps by music label Concord Music Group. The aim here is to drum up a new customer-base, with each individual app sporting remastered tracks, interviews, photos, album artwork and some videos. The apps – or should we say albums – can be purchased from the Apple App Store for $7.99 (£5.49) each. And what’s worth keeping in mind here is…

FiftyThree’s Pencil, a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) stylus for iPad, has launched in Europe more than nine months after it first went on sale in North America. FiftyThree was founded by a design team that formerly plied their trade at Microsoft, working on Xbox, Kinect and other flagship products. The first product out of the starting blocks in 2012 was an iPad app called Paper, designed for note-taking, sketching, and just about everything else you can do with a physical paper pad. It was previously named one of Apple’s iPad apps of the year, and it was given a chunky…
