Accounting behemoth EY is putting wine on the blockchain. In a press release from last week (spotted by CoinDesk), the company announced it has developed a blockchain-powered platform for tracking the authenticity and origins of wine. The system, which is based on EY‘s suite of blockchain tools Ops Chain, makes it possible to “determine the quality, provenance, and authenticity of new and vintage wines.” The solution – called the TATTOO Wine Platform – will “focus on markets in China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Singapore.” EY says the platform will leverage smart contracts to streamline wine sales from “vineyards to hotels, restaurants,…

Apple is expected to kill 3D Touch from its 2019 iPhone lineup

Do you use 3D Touch on your iPhone? If not, don’t worry. Apple is getting rid of it for a cheaper alternative. MacRumors, quoting a team of Barclays analysts, has confirmed that 3D Touch will be eliminated from all iPhone models coming out in 2019. The company intends to replace it with the cheaper Haptic Touch technology that it introduced with last year’s iPhone XR. This adds credence to previous reports from the Wall Street Journal back in January, which said Apple was looking at removing the feature in an attempt to cut costs: Apple is also considering trimming functions…

Computex, a yearly trade show on computers and technology, is underway in Taiwan and we might see some mind-boggling PC products. Asus was one of the firsts to take to stage today, and they announced a dual-screen laptop called ZenBook Pro Duo with two 4K screens, and that immediately caught my eye. The device’s primary screen is a 15.6-inc 4K UHD display with 16:9 aspect ratio. Its secondary screen is a 14-inch 4K UHD display, called ScreenPad Plus, with a 32:9 aspect ratio. The tech company has crafted the software in such a way that the secondary screen can be used…

I miss blind, dumb enthusiasm for new tech

Today marks 10 years since Google stoked great excitement in the tech community by unveiling a new product called Wave. I remember it clearly, because that day I sat down on my sofa 5,000 miles away from Google’s developer conference and wrote my first ever post as a paid tech journalist, trying to make sense of what exactly Wave was. To this day, it’s difficult to explain Wave. Essentially, it let you collaborate with others in real-time  —  a first for the web of a decade ago. But when users got their hands on it, they were left confused about…
