Microsoft Unveils Windows 8

Despite support for Windows XP finally ending three months ago, the ancient OS has only now fallen below the 25 percent market share mark. To add to the bad news for Microsoft, after only nine full months of availability, its latest operating system version, Windows 8.1, has lost share for the first time. The latest market share data from Net Applications shows that Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 lost a combined 0.06 percentage points (from 12.54 percent to 12.48 percent) between June and July. More specifically, Windows 8 slipped 0.01 percentage points (from 5.93 percent to 5.92 percent), while Windows…

Sky’s NOW TV box finally gets a YouTube app

Sky has announced that users of its Roku-made £10 streaming NOW TV box can now download a YouTube app for the device via the Roku Channel Store for the first time. While it’s not a big update, the addition is significant; the NOW TV boxes cost just £10 because they allow Sky to potentially increase the number of paying subscribers for its NOW TV Entertainment, Movies and Sports packages. However, the downside is a more cut-back list of app options than you would find on a Roku-branded device. With YouTube now joining BBC iPlayer, 4oD, ITV Player, Demand 5 and a number of other channels…
