Apple Stores Mark Earth Day, Day After Announcing New Green Initiative

Many think that the mobile gaming scene is dominated by males, who are naturally driving games revenue, but a new Flurry report shows some surprising insights that overturn such assumptions. The mobile ad firm found that, based on a sample of games that reach a total of 1.1 million devices on the Flurry platform, women actually make 31 percent more in-app purchases than men. Other than that, it found that women also spend 35 percent more time in gaming apps, and have 42 percent more retention over seven days on average compared to men. Flurry notes that the data is…

Twitch drops highlight limitations and enables copyright appeal following user feedback

Cult gaming site Twitch is tweaking the new copyright protection policy that it announced earlier this week, after revealing that it will remove the maximum length for highlight footage. The company has also introduced an appeal button for videos that are flagged as breaching copyright by its new Audio Recognition system — both changes are based on user feedback, it says. Yesterday’s announcement of measures to clean up the site’s video-on-demand content by detecting audio that breaches copyright drew a negative reaction from many Twitch users. Evernote offers a free safe haven for Fotopedia images

Last week came the stunning news that famed travelogue site Fotopedia was shutting down as of August 10. Apart from the shock and dismay that announcement generated, other practical concerns emerged — such as how and where contributors to the site would retrieve and safeguard their images from Fotopedia’s servers. With some three days left before deadline, Evernote has announced that photographers can now sync their Fotopedia account with Evernote. They can go to a Fotopedia/Evernote page on the site to add images to their account before the shutdown occurs. There is no charge for this service. “This is a Fotopedia importer into Evernote….

Microsoft today updated its by the Numbers webpage to note that the Windows Phone Store has now passed 300,000 apps, as pointed out by WPCentral. We reached out to the company to confirm the figure. “We have more than 300,000 Windows Phone apps today and the Windows Phone Store continues to grow,” a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed with TNW. “In the past year alone the Windows and Windows Phone app catalog has grown 94%, while the number of active developers has grown by 50%.” When asked when exactly the milestone was reached, we were told the data “is as of end…
