Last week, it was reconstructing sound using tiny vibrations on objects — this week’s science wow comes from Microsoft Research, which showed off a technology that turns shaky first-person video into beautifully smooth timelapse footage. The growth of wearable video cameras — from Google Glass to GoPro and more — has led to a boom in first-person videos, most of which are overly long and uneventful. When you speed them up into to timelapse video, however, they can become more palatable and entertaining, but a person’s movement means the footage is rarely steady. Are you into celebrity news and the owner of an iOS device? If so, Microsoft has you covered with a new app that quietly launched over the weekend. Snipp3t is a celebrity news app for Apple devices that lets you follow your favorite famous people to get news of their latest activities as it happens. And I don’t think I’ve ever clicked it. I’ve hoped that others would, of course. I hope they click all the share buttons. We talk a lot about reversing the decline in organic Facebook reach and succeeding with Facebook marketing. Maybe we’ve been overlooking a…

Dr. Liraz Margalit is the Customer Experience Psychologist at ClickTale. This article was co-written with Udi Zisquit. After a long day at work, people often find themselves in need of a mental break, and one of the most popular ways to relax in the 21st century is to immerse oneself in digital media. This mental escape from the “here and now” into the online world is mediated by cognitive modification; as the task guiding our behavior changes, the human mind is trained to automatically change the route by which it processes information – from strenuous mental effort to passive absorption of…
