Apple today announced iPadOS at its annual WWDC event. The new operating system comes with a plethora of updates over iOS that bring the company’s popular slab almost on part with laptops. First up, the iPad will get a new split-screen apps feature that brings side-by-side launching of apps – including duplicate apps. Apple promises this will work with third-party apps as well. The new OS will also include drag-and-drop support between open apps. The new OS also introduces the ability for iPad users to pin widgets directly to their home screen and several other quality of life upgrades including…

There’s been a long-standing complaint that Apple’s ‘not a computer’ iPads don’t support USB drives. Today at its developer conference WWDC, Apple announced that iPad will now support USB thumb drives with the new iPad OS. The USB drive will show up directly into the files app, and you can directly import them into apps like Adobe Lightroom Thankfully, the iPads will also support zipping and unzipping folders so you don’t have to uncompress files on your Mac or PC and then plug in the thumb drive. There’s no detail on what’s the maximum size of USB drives the iPadOS…

The new iOS Photos app makes it easier to manage and edit photos

The iOS Photos app received a significant overhaul at WWDC. In addition to new editing features, there’s also a new focus on making it easier to appreciate and manage the photos you’ve already got. So, let’s talk about the viewing features. Photos now lets you break photos into three distinct groups: Days, Months, and Years. Fundamentally, these vary by the content being shown, but all have one thing in common. Across the three modes, the iOS Photos app uses machine learning to automatically hide pictures you might not be interested in and highlight your best work. In Days, for example,…

Apple now lets you share songs and movies with friends via AirPods

Apple revealed Audio Sharing at today’s WWDC event. Now, if you want to share a song or a video with a friend, you’ll be able to do so wirelessly by sending the audio to their AirPods. The company didn’t reveal exactly how this trade would happen: we didn’t see a demonstration, just a still image of two phones hovering next to each other. Presumably it’ll be part of the Apple Music’s sharing options, and it’ll detect your friend’s AirPods via Bluetooth (they still have to consent to share audio). It’s basically the next-generation (and more hygienic) version of taking an…

Apple introduces privacy-focused ‘Sign in with Apple’ button for sites and apps

Jun03

Apple addressed privacy problems by calling out trackers around the world at its WWDC developer conference. To address that, the company introduced a new sign in method: Sign in with Apple. Just like ‘login with Google’ and ‘login with Facebook,’ you can sign in into an app by ‘login with Apple‘ button. It uses FaceID for authentication, and creates a new account if you don’t have any. More importantly, you can choose to hide your email address, and Apple will generate a random email ID visible to only to that particular app that’ll forward all emails to your main email ID.…
