Magisto, a cloud-based iOS app that uses Artificial Intelligence to automatically mix your iPhone photos and videos into movies, has unveiled a new trick: Surprise Me. This new feature — part of an update to the free app — uses AI to create original videos, but this time independently and without your input. With the aptly named Surprise Me enabled, the app will now sort through your old content and splice it together into its own production. The new feature automatically determines when enough new media has been added to an event, analyzes the content, combines photos and videos of its choosing into a video, and…

Vanity Fair reports that Apple has hired industrial designer Marc Newson. Newson will join his friend and Senior Vice President of Design, Jony Ive on the company’s design team creating future Apple products. This hire is huge as it would give Ive someone of his caliber of talent to work with. Steve Jobs was famously hands-on with most aspects of  the design of Apple products. This involved spending a lot of time with Ive as the two collaborated on the company’s hardware. Meanwhile, Tim Cook took care of the day-to-day business. CEO Cook is still not nearly as involved in the day-to-day design…

Monochrome is back in fashion — as if it every really left. Despite the ubiquity of color images native to digital cameras, the drama of black and white photography is being rediscovered and people are once again connecting with its subtle beauty. Manipulating monochromatic tonal ranges or unicolor tinting injects variety and depth into a portfolio. We looked at nine camera shooting and editing apps representing the many now available. Most of the apps let you connect to social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Flickr and several have special features to support Instagram’s square format. Intel teaming up with Fossil for upcoming wearables

Sep05

Intel continues to partner with hardware companies for its wearables instead of trying to build its own. At Recode’s Code Media event, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said that the company is teaming up with the Fossil Group, likely for a smartwatch. The chipmaker completed its acquisition of smartwatch maker Basis in March, which could be helping the company build the technology needed by partners.  The company is already teaming up with 50 Cent’s SMS Audio brand for heartbeat tracking headphones. Fossil makes…
