With the recent furore around iCloud, stirred by the substantial leak of nude celebrity photos online, it should come as no surprise that Apple wants its services to appear a little more secure. While the company has denied any breach of iCloud in relation to the leaked images, it’s still felt it necessary to send out email alerts whenever an account is accessed using a web browser. Microsoft Makes $44.6 Billion Bid For Yahoo

Yahoo today launched Yahoo Recommends, a publishing tool that offers personalized content recommendations and native advertising. The company believes it can help visitors discover more of a publisher’s content while helping them monetize it as well. Yahoo’s argument for the product is simple: it has been developing its own media solutions for years and so it already has the technology, since it lets digital publishers share content on its own network. The next logical step is to give publishers across the Web the same offering, adding a new revenue stream. Yahoo Recommends adjusts to site layouts across PCs as well…

Amazon cuts Fire phone price to $0.99 in the US, opens Germany and UK pre-orders; will ship September 30

Amazon today announced it is cutting the Fire phone’s price in the US to $0.99 with a two-year contract. That’s significant given that one year of Amazon Prime is still included in the package and the $199 launch price just two months ago. At the same time, following the Fire TV last week, Amazon today revealed the Fire phone is also coming to Germany and the UK. The device is available for pre-order now and will start shipping on September 30. The Fire phone is subsidized by carriers in both European countries.
