Glympse has long since cemented its position as one of the most popular real-time location-sharing apps for mobile. If you’re new to it, it works like this: you decide which of your contacts can see where you are, so they can track your movements from A to B, and you can set a time-limit for how long the link you’ve shared is active. That’s it in a nutshell, at least. Today, however, Glympse has launched a brand new standalone app for Android users. Glympse Keyboard is fairly revealing from its name – it’s a keyboard that works in conjunction with…

Sega has built an arcade machine where a sandbox is your controller

Sega is launching an arcade machine in Japan that uses a custom sandbox as the controller. The iconic game developer and former console maker is calling it “Edel Sunaba” and, perhaps most impressively, it offers specially modified sand that can be sculpted without water and doesn’t stick to your hands. In other words, video game arcades that pick one of these up won’t be left with a small beach on the floor at the end of each day. Worlds are projected on top of the sandbox and, by analysing the verticality of the sand, the game’s projections will change based…

HTC is holding a press event next month, and the latest rumor suggests that the Taiwanese firm will unveil a waterproof camera in the style of GoPro. That’s according to company sources cited by Bloomberg, which reports that the device could sport a 16-megapixel camera, Bluetooth and WiFi support, and the ability to sync to Android and iOS phones. This wouldn’t be the only reveal at the October 8 HTC event, Bloomberg suggests that a ‘new smartphone optimized for selfies’ may also be unveiled. Yes, another one. GoPro raised more than $400 million from a stellar public listing this summer. Though its brand dominates…

Virgin Media has announced today that its TiVo television service has been updated for the first time in around four years, bringing a new design and new features to the platform. Among the changes are a new background color – gone is the iconic red color theme, it’s now ‘plum’ instead – and new fonts, as well as redesigned menu structures to make it easier to access live and on-demand programming. Previously, live and on-demand content was clunkily arranged in the same section. The new ‘infinity’ Virgin Media logo also replaces the previous branding throughout the new UI. The main…

Google today announced Google Cloud Platform for Startups, a new program to help early-stage startups with $100,000 in Cloud Platform credit, 24/7 support, and access to the company’s technical solutions team. The goal is to help them use the cloud to speed up the process of launching and scaling their idea. While the offer is available to startups around the world through 50 of Google’s partners (top incubators, accelerators and investors), there’s a catch. To be eligible, your startup must be currently less than 5 years old and generate less than $500,000 in annual revenue. The Google Cloud Platform team…
