Voice-controlled computer Ubi goes on sale for $299 to help make your home smarter

Ubi, a small computer that relies on voice commands for input, has begun shipping. The device completed a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012 and is now available in the US for $299. Ubi plugs into a wall outlet, connects to your WiFi and listens for your voice controls. The device can set reminders, play music, send messages and communicate with other Ubi units. You can also use it to control your smart home through integrations with Nest, SmartThings and WeMo. ➤ Ubi

A high-tech black market for stolen credit card details in former Soviet countries is worth $680m

In the former USSR countries, criminal activities with stolen credit cards have created a market of $680,000,000. This accounts for 27 percent of the total high-tech crime market, says a report released by Russian cyber security firm Group-IB, covering the period from July 2013 and June 2014. Japanese company Line has launched an iPad incarnation of its popular messaging app. Rather than plumping for a universal app that’s optimized for the phone and tablet form factors, the new addition arrives as a standalone entity. Wikipedia for Android now shows you articles based on your current location

In May last year, Wikipedia’s mobile website received a rather interesting new feature, as it started surfacing Wikipedia articles based on your location. As of today, this has been added to its native Android app too. You’ll now see a new ‘Nearby’ feature in the main menu, which takes you to articles on the myriad of buildings, parks, museums and everything else that happens to have a Wikipedia entry in your vicinity.     It’s a neat feature for sure, and could be used as a tour guide when you’re in a new area, as it typically brings up noteworthy places….

Google Glass will now let you see all your Android phone notifications

There may still be a relatively small market for Google Glass, but that isn’t stopping Google from continuing to iterate with its smart lens. Indeed, Google has announced that it’s introducing Notification Sync, meaning you’ll be able to see all your Android phone notifications within Glass. So all those WhatsApp messages and Twitter mentions will now be in your direct line of vision.
