Bitcoin stolen from Bitfinex in 2016 is on the move. Earlier today, a combined 172.54 BTC ($1.37 million) was mysteriously sent from the hacker‘s wallets to an unknown address. Bitfinex’ marketing director Anneka Dew however told Hard Fork that today’s movements had nothing to do with the company at all. The set of five transfers began at approximately 07:00AM UTC, June 7, and was shared by Twitter-based transaction monitor @whale_alert. The circumstances surrounding the set of eery transactions isn’t yet clear. Curiously, Twitter users highlighted a section from the white paper for Bitfinex’ new LEO token that appears to foreshadow these kinds…

Facebook bans Huawei from pre-installing its apps, but does it matter?

Another company joined the long list of organizations that’s cut ties with Huawei. According to a report by Reuters, Facebook has banned the Chinese tech company from pre-installing its apps – Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp – on Huawei phones. This ban doesn’t affect current Huawei users. They’ll be able to download these apps and receive updates from the Play Store like any other Android device. The company’s been already banned by Google, so it can’t use Android’s upcoming versions, Play Store, and Play Services. ARM, the organization which designs semiconductor architecture, has also ceased ties with the Chinese company, so it…

Seagate’s compact, budget hard drives are perfect for backing up data on the go

If you need to back up your data for work, school, or play, there are loads of hard drives out there waiting to be filled to the brim with your precious files. And I’ve got some good news for you: they’re getting cheaper and smaller – like Seagate’s offerings for 2019. The new Backup Plus Slim is compact enough to fit into the front pocket of a men’s shirt, store 2TB of data, and comes in at just $60. Its slightly heftier sibling, the $110 Backup Plus that the company sent me, is thicker and weighs a bit more –…

Another day, another cryptocurrency heist. Hackers have breached over 100 Ripple (XRP) Ledger wallets managed by service provider GateHub. If that wasn’t bad enough, additional reports suggest the attackers have siphoned off more than $100 million worth of XRP. “Recently, we have been notified by our customers and community members about funds on their XRP Ledger wallets being stolen and immediately started monitoring network activity, and conducted an extensive internal investigation,” wrote GateHub chief Enej Pungercar. Unfortunately, the company has yet to identify what caused the issue. GateHub say it’s in the process of reviewing the suspicious activity, but no official…
