"How many productive working hours are wasted by viewers watching worldwide championship sports events? How many Millions of Dutch and Spanish people will skip work to watch the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final? Although in Europe's case, they don't work much anyway, so what difference does it really make?" ~ Yasha Harari

We’ve all found ourselves trapped in an awkward dinner situation where we want nothing more than to be rescued by a “important call.” A new device called Dorothy might be able to come your rescue. A different take on wearables made by iStrategyLabs, Dorothy works by attaching a ‘Ruby’ (a small Arduino-based Bluetooth device) to your shoe and tapping your heels together three times to trigger an action.   That triggered action could be a call from a fake contact, or you can configure it to send a custom message and location to your friends. The company says it’s looking in…

Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg today sued four law firms which represented Paul Ceglia in a 2010 case where the client claimed he owned as much as 84 percent of the company. In 2013, a judge dismissed the case, stating that the contract Ceglia claimed as proof of his ownership was nothing but a “recently created fabrication.” Ceglia had allegedly forged the document based on a real contract that had been signed when Zuckerberg worked for Ceglia’s company in 2003. Ceglia was arrested for the falsifications in 2012. Now Facebook is moving to make his lawyers pay for the alleged forgery. According…

At its cloud computing event today, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that the company would be offering up its Azure cloud computing service to assist in Ebola research. Essentially, the company is handing out grants to provide successful applicants with Azure’s processing power for easing access to services and data healthcare workers and researchers may need. In order to make use of the award, applicants should be associated with an academic institution and submit a proposal for how they intend to use the service. With growing concerns about the potential for the disease to spread, its a nice gesture by the company to help…
