Today Google updated its Google Drive app for iOS 8 with new features including the ability to open drive with Touch ID, save videos from Drive to your device and improved app support for opening and saving files saved in the Google cloud. In a Google+ post, the company laid out the new features for the iOS version of Drive. While app support improvements are great, the added security of Touch ID as a passcode lock for the app is welcome news to anyone concerned about their data stored in the cloud. Both improved file support and Touch ID are…

If you’re been wanting a smartwatch with a circular display, but the Moto 360 isn’t quite to your tastes, you can now get the LG G Watch R from the Google Play store. The watch costs $299 and comes in matte black with a steel frame and is the first wear watch with a fully circular AMOLED display (the Moto 360’s gets cut off at the bottom) . Whatever you may think about Android Wear, the Moto 360 (our review) was probably the first smartwatch to truly capture people’s attention for its design. That said, it was limited to only two color and material choices at launch, and Motorola now wants to give you more options. Announced in a blog post earlier (currently down), you can finally get the Moto 360 with the metal band users lusted over in the pre-release renders. The company is also introducing slim bands for people who want a more minimal aesthetic. The metal bands are available in light, dark and champagne colors,…

Typography Deconstructed Letterpress Poster-1
Steve Matteson is the Creative Type Director for Monotype.  It has been famously said that the Web design is 95 percent typography. Typography has always been central to any written message – books, manuals, packaging, advertisements – and now the Web. The Web gives brands a new opportunity to interact with customers. Therefore being ‘on brand’ or ‘on message’ is more critical than ever. In order to tie the immaterial Web experience with the physical product experience a common thread of consistent typography is key. The adoption of Web fonts technology (the ability to embed corporate brand typefaces within the…

Peter Thiel, managing partner, Founders Fund

Following comments to the Financial Times two months ago criticising the continent, venture capitalist Peter Thiel today dismissed Dublin Web Summit with its 20,000+ attendees as “not representative of Europe”. Thiel, who was born in Germany before moving with his parents to California aged one, told the audience: “The Web Summit is not representative of Europe at all. How would my life have turned out if I grew up in Germany instead? I think there’s something about the pessimism that permeates continental Europe that’s very demotivating.” He told the FT: ““Europe is a slacker with low expectations, held back by…
