Not long ago, the concept of image recognition was considered the wave of the future, somewhere on the sidelines of public consciousness. Not anymore. Photography trends have now propelled this technology to front and center stage because of the sheer volume of images shot and stored and the need to find them quickly and easily. Russian internet giant Yandex has launched an alpha version of its new Chromium-based browser for Windows and Mac OS X that incorporates a few interesting ideas of how a modern browser might look. The main difference from the interface of Chrome or Firefox is the ultimate minimalism and the fact that the tabs are moved to the bottom of the page. With more than 60,000 phrases across almost 90 movies and TV shows, PlayPhrase.me is a pretty addictive Web app that lets you search for very specific phrases and soundbites that have been uttered on-screen. This could be something as simple as ‘Come to me’ or ‘Howdy’, to the more mirthsome ‘Ass Monkey’. Musixmatch brings its lyrics catalog to the Web, replete with song-synchronization for karaoke nuts

We’ve written about Musixmatch before, a company that provides millions of officially licensed lyrics via its API. And now, following in the footsteps of its launch on iOS and Android way back in 2011, the service is open on the Web too. Musixmatch says its daily number of users have shot from 4 million to more than 10 million globally in less than a year, with app downloads totalling 30 million.
