Unfortunately, sales don’t last forever. Though console price cuts tend to be on permanent side, the current $349 pricing for the Xbox One was only a holiday promotion that Microsoft said would only last two months – a promotion that seemed to work well. Holiday surge now over, Microsoft is making good on its time limit; the $50 savings end on January 3rd. So if you’ve been saving up for a new Xbox or just hadn’t been able to grab one before they sold out, this is your last chance to get a sweet deal on the console. ➤ Final Chance…

Google’s Chrome OS just got a little bit more useful. Google evangelist François Beaufort posted on Google+ that the Chrome OS now supports running Linux in a window via the Crouton Chrome extension. Before you use the extension, you’ll have to put your Chromebook in Developer Mode. Prior to today’s announcement, you had to use a virtual terminals and switch back and forth between your Linux distro and Chrome OS. Now it’s in one handy dandy window right there in the main operating system. ➤ Run Crouton in a Chrome OS Window [François Beaufort] ➤ via Gigaom

China’s four-day Gmail outage, which began on Christmas Day, appears to have ended, reports the FT. A government crackdown on Google services began this summer before the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests. However, access to Gmail via POP, IMAP and SMTP remained possible until the latest restrictions. Now, Gmail seems to be accessible again via those means. Usage stats are slowly increasing again according to Google’s Transparency Report which tracks traffic to its services. ➤ Access restored to Google’s email service in China [FT] Thumbnail image credit: Shutterstock
