A new video featuring Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft’s Xbox division, reveals that screenshots will soon come to the console. There’s no timeline on the feature, but Spencer hints at big news for the console to be revealed at Microsoft’s Windows 10 event on January 21. Spencer says that “it will be the beginning of the discussion with fans on the work we’re doing to bring gaming to the Windows 10 Operating System.” Could Microsoft be planning to allow gamers to play Xbox One games on their PCs? We’ll be at Microsoft’s Windows 10 event next week to get you the news on…

Apple’s Swift exploded in popularity in 2014, Javascript still most popular programming language overall

Redmonk’s programming language rankings for 2015 are out and show a huge growth in popularity for Apple’s new Swift development language. According to the results, Swift went from the 68th most popular language last quarter (when it launched) to the 22nd, a jump of 46 spots which is “unprecedented in the history of these rankings.” Swift was announced by Apple in June at its WWDC developer conference, making it less than a year old. The prominence of the language and huge developer interest indicates it’ll continue to be popular in 2015 and should eventually surpass Objective-C (which is likely what Apple always intended).…

Wikipedia’s Android app updated for a better reading experience

Wikipedia’s Android app has a makeover for its latest update, with a simpler, more immersive readeing experience. The updated app features images more prominently. Articles now feature a contextual header image and tapping other pictures displays them in a pop-up with a caption. Tapping again hides the information for an unobscured view. You’ll also find links to related articles in the ‘Read More’ section at the end of each page. The search feature has been improved and now includes a list of recently searched topics. While this is a limited update, it improves the app’s usability and makes it feel a…

Google has inked a deal with live event companies Ticketfly, Ticketmaster and AXS to integrate sales for live shows into its Search and Google Maps search results on mobile or desktop, as well as within the Google Maps app. So now when you search for a specific venue, you’ll get the option to see upcoming events directly below the venue information, from which you can click through and make a ticket purchase. Alongside the venue events option, you can also now get artist schedules at the top of the page whenever you search for a specific person or band. Ticketfly said that…

Remember those crazy Facebook Chat Heads that let you reply to your friends outside the Messenger app? Thanks to this third party app, you can get them on your Mac now too. Aptly-named Chat Heads for OS X, is a little third-party app that brings the experience to your Mac. Now, you can reply directly to people by simply clicking on their face bubble that appears on the desktop. Chat Heads allows you to reply to people just like you do in Messenger, stickers and all. It feels more at home than normal chat apps, because you can move around people’s faces and…
