As if Amazon doesn’t do everything already, The Wall Street Journal reports today that it’s also getting into providing corporate email service. The new service, named WorkMail, offers email and calendar hosting services aimed to take on Microsoft and Google for a slice of the work email market. WorkMail is targeted to simply replace the backend of email services while still allowing employees to keep using the tools they’re used to like Outlook. The service starts at $4 per email inbox on WorkMail for 50GB of storage, or $6 if bundled with Amazon’s document management service Zocalo. Featured image: Ken Wolter /…

Microsoft has announced a raft of photo-focused features for OneDrive, which will include an intriguing new search feature. Due to roll out “over the next couple of weeks, ” the update brings the ability for users to more easily view and manage photos on a mobile device or on the desktop, and a new Album view displays larger, edge-to-edge images in a collage. It’ll also make importing images directly to OneDrive a whole lot easier from Windows 7 and 8 computers; images will be saved automatically in new ‘Screenshots’ and ‘Camera imports’ folders. Screenshots will still be saved to your…

With increasing concerns about government access to user data, tech companies try to appease us with reports on how frequently they’re asked to turn over information on users. Dropbox today released its own semiannual transparency report. In the time period from July 1 through December 31 of 2014, the company notes 275 requests for user information (slightly up from 268 last semester). The reports now include requests from outside of the US – 20 of those came from other countries. Those requests covered 1,018 accounts (a warrant can include more than one account). Dropbox responded with information on 789 of these, although in most of these…

Slack, the increasing popular communication platform, has made its second acquisition, snapping up collaborative screen sharing service Screenhero for an undisclosed amount in a cash and stock deal. Screenhero’s entire six-person team is joining Slack, which will integrate its features including screen sharing and voice. The collaboration will also see Slack rolling out new video communication features. Screenhero is a graduate of Y Combinator. It launched in 2013 and raised a $2.6 million seed round last year from True Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz and Elad Gil, among others. The screen sharing service will be phased out as a standalone product but current users will…

Jawbone launches Partner Marketplace for third-party apps and services in the US

Jawbone, the company behind the UP24, UpMove and UP3 fitness trackers, has launched a partner marketplace in the US aimed at drawing together the best apps, devices and other integrations available across the Jawbone ecosystem.. Rather than list all the possible available integrations, the Jawbone Marketplace only has best-in-class offerings that work neatly with its own products. As a result, there’s only around 10 right now. Currently, things like Fitbug’s Kiqplan training service, Sleepio and a SmartThings Kit for Jawbone are available. While that isn’t many, the portal is broken up into categories like sleep, food, lifestyle and smart home (among others), so presumably more will…
