HTC One M9 first impressions: A solid flagship device with a beautiful build

OneM9Home

Today, HTC lifted the lid on its next flagship smartphone – the HTC One M9, so we spent a little time with the device to see how fared at a first pass. As a fan of the One M7 and M8, it’s nice to see that HTC has kept the same approach with its latest model, and it’s even more pleasing that it ditched the additional spacial sensor and rear-facing UltraPixel camera, which I found always produced variable results. The downside, however, is that the device doesn’t look quite as sleek as its predecessors. It certainly still screams ‘premium’ though, so…

OneM9_feat
HTC has today officially unveiled its flagship smartphone for the coming year: the HTC One M9. Following HTC’s One M7 and One M8, the naming convention for the One M9 comes as no surprise. It’s not just the name that’s kept to the same formula, either. The newest HTC One keeps the same single-piece approach for its scratch resistant metal chassis, except this time around there’s a subtly-colored band running around the side of the handset. It’s so subtle, in fact, that you might not be able to see it. Hardware-wise, the One M9 has a 5-inch full HD display, octocore…

HTC announces the ‘Grip,’ its first wearable (but it’s only headed to the US)

htc grip
HTC has announced its first wearable and it comes aimed at active users that want to accurately track their workouts and other activity. Called the Grip, the device is designed to tie in with HTC’s deal with Under Armour, announced earlier this year and as such will link to the UA app. While the sportsband and activity wearable marketplace is now flooded with options, HTC is hoping that by proving more accurate tracking, it’ll be able to lure in the most dedicated users. To achieve this is uses GPS in combination with a pedometer. There’s a downside to that GPS tracking…

HTC has announced a partnership with Valve to explore the world of virtual reality for gaming with a new VR headset called the Vive. Over 70 sensors will provide 360 degree room tracking which means when you move around, you won’t feel sick. It offers a 90Hz refresh rate and high quality audio. HTC also touts the Vive as lightweight, and will come with two controllers to let you move around and interact fully with your VR surroundings. The developer edition will be rolling out this Spring and HTC has said it will deliver a consumer product before the end of the…

Demystifying the muse: 5 creativity myths you need to stop believing

Mar01

brain-sides
This post originally appeared on the Crew blog. There’s a letter from an 1815 issue of General Music Journal where Mozart describes his creative process as instantaneous: no struggle or writer’s block. The muse simply showed up and he was ready. The problem? The letter is a fraud. Much like many other myths about creativity, the mystical method described in the letter only serves to accentuate what we already mistakenly feel about creativity: that it is some sort of magical ability that certain people have and others don’t. Today, with creativity becoming a commodity that so many people trade on, it’s more…
