team

This post is brought to you by Jama Software – reinventing product delivery  by changing how products are conceived, built and launched.

When you’re managing product development for large, complex organizations, employee engagement can be a major challenge. Facing many moving parts to a project, engineers and product team leads have no choice but to focus on what’s in front of them in terms of their specific tasks and immediate deadlines. At big companies, organizational silos and time pressures exacerbate some of these pain points, and two things end up happening. The first is that people start feeling frustrated because they’re disconnected from the collective mission. The second is that people stop reaching their full potential — which means that talent ends…

HereForiOS-5
Nokia has announced today that it has brought its mapping app, HERE, back to iOS after it was taken down in 2013. Nokia is hoping to compete with Google and Apple on the mapping front by bringing something a bit different to the table. One of HERE’s  most compelling features is its offline maps for over 100 countries. On top of that, it also provides directions for people using cars, public transport and walking as well as suggestions of places nearby that are worth a visit. In the 15 months that HERE has been on hiatus from iOS, Google Maps…

Wikiwand iPhone - Big Showcase
Wikiwand made a name for itself in 2013 adding a streamlined interface and useful features to Wikipedia via a browser extension. The company has since raised $600,000 in funding, launched an iPhone app and has an Android version in the works. TNW spoke with founder Lior Grossman to find out about Wikiwand’s approach to designing a more usable encyclopedia, and making money off Wikipedia’s Creative Commons-licensed content. How did you go about translating the Wikiwand Web experience to mobile? We began by researching how people are using Wikipedia on mobile, as opposed to on the Web. We soon found that…

UK ISPs have blocked popular proxy sites that were being use to access the Pirate Bay. The move is a result of recent High Court of Justice rulings which ordered them to restrict access to websites that enable copyright infringement. Some of the sites blocked late on Tuesday were  PirateBayProxyList.com, PirateBayProxy.co.uk, UKBay.org and ILikeRainbows.co.uk. This is the latest in a string of setbacks for the Pirate Bay. It was already blocked throughout most of Europe and while it’s still available in the US and elsewhere, it’s no longer being updated with torrent files. ➤ UK ISPs quietly block sites that list…
