Medium, the minimalist blogging platform, is taking on WordPress and Squarespace with a simple but important new feature: custom domain support. Only for some lucky publishers, however. There are only four launch partners: New America, Midcentury Modern, Substance and The Nib. Still, you can expect other well known sites to be added soon. It’s unclear exactly how much Medium wants to open up custom domains to the public though. 1500x500 (1)
Nuzzel’s awesome news app, which makes it easy to follow the news your friends on social media are talking about, has a big update today: you can now follow Twitter lists on the service. The premise of Nuzzel is fairly simple: it gathers the links your friends share on Twitter in a clean interface and lists the most-shared ones. There’s an iOS app, so you can get alerts when a group of friends tweet about a link on your timeline. This app has become my absolute favorite way to discover what’s interesting online without having to keep up; I get an alert…

Though the FCC passed its new set of rules to protect net neutrality two weeks ago, the exact text of the order has only just become available. The FCC has released the final and complete text of the new #OpenInternet Order: https://t.co/PuB5Pi2bK6 #NetNeutrality — The FCC (@FCC) March 12, 2015 The document describes the rules and conditions under which the “light-touch” regulation applies, and details the internet’s Title II classification. It also presents each commissioner’s opinions on Net Neutrality – both in support and against – that informed the final decision. We’ll be taking a more thorough look at the…

As part of the Make it Digital program launched today, the BBC announced a partnership with 25 companies to develop what they are calling the ‘Micro Bit’ – a tiny and simplistic computer that will be distributed among 1 million school children in the UK. The Micro Bit is a working title and is still a prototype but the BBC has been working with the likes of Microsoft, Samsung, Google and ARM on this project which certainly looks very promising. The aim is to teach children some essential basic coding skills which will entice them to move on to more…
