Google is today introducing an update that’s sure to make some parents happy: age ratings. After answering some questions -such as whether their app contains nudity or curse words – developers receive an automated rating that allows them to avoid too much red tape . That said, the ratings will be monitored to try to weed out incorrect ones after they are submitted. The ratings will be adjusted based on local standards around the world – an app might be okay for children in one Europe, but not in the US, for instance. In North America, ratings are based off of the ESRB standards…

It didn’t take much for the first SXSW poster to stop me in my tracks and reroute my entire day’s journey to accommodate the advertised event. That’s because this past weekend in downtown Austin, packs of Saint Bernards were roaming about, accompanied by battery packs to help charge attendees’ dying cellphone batteries. Everyone wanted to a piece of them. Despite the myriad of lounges with free chargers and air-conditioning, people were purposely letting their phones die for a chance to meet these dogs in real life. Unable to kill my battery that quickly, I stopped by the epicenter of where the poster said the dogs will be.…

Dropbox has today announced that its Dropbox badge, which allows users to edit Office documents directly within Dropbox, is now being made available to all Dropbox for Business customers. First launched at the end of last year for early access customers, the badge lets business users edit, update (to a newer version) or share a document directly from within Dropbox. The company first announced its partnership with Microsoft back in November last year. Dropbox said that nearly 13,000 business customers have already tested out the badge and that it has “helped them cut down on long email threads, multiple file versions, and having to…

Google entered the art game in 2011 with the introduction of its Art Project, working with 17 museums and expanding further to over 150 institutions in 2012. Last June, Google added 5,000 images of street art from around the world to the project and today it has announced that it will be doubling that number to 10,000 with the launch of the second edition of its Street Art Project. Google is working with over 80 different organizations from 34 countries on the project.  It allows you to experience the often transient artworks in every shape and form from stencil and mosaic…

Microsoft has today confirmed that its fitness tracker, the Microsoft Band, will be available in the UK from April 15 and will cost £169.99. First launched in the US in October, the company said that as well as bringing it to Blighty, the band will be offered more widely within the US and from a greater range of retailers. Potential UK purchasers can’t walk out of a shop with one just yet, but in a little under a month they will be able to. If you’re keen enough to pre-order the device in the UK, that will be possible from…
