Another week, another update for Google Maps on iOS. Today’s update adds some useful features though. First up, you can now see maps in a full screen view by tapping on an empty space on the screen. Public transportation routes on the map are also now color-coded for better visual cues about your transport options. If you’re picky about your food options, you can also now filter your searches to only include restaurants with Zagat ratings. And if you want to be quicker about looking up directions for them, the update lets you access voice commands by tapping on the…

If you’ve been on the fence about using Xbox Music because you’re already playing for Spotify, Rdio or Rhapsody, today might be the day you actually launch the app on your Xbox or Windows device. How can technology save homeless pets? The ASPCA, in an SXSW panel with a technical angle — GIS Mapping: Using Technology to Save the Lives of Dogs and Cats — demoed not only highly detailed and annotated maps of geographical hotspots where animals are in need, but the beneficiaries of all this effort. The presentation backdrop was set with an adorable cast of homeless dogs and puppies from the Austin shelter for people to pet and hold and play with. The session was cheerful but the subject was not. Approximately 7.6 million dogs and cats enter US shelters each year, according to the ASPCA,…

Microsoft has delivered a new preview build of Windows 10 to testers today. Unfortunately, while the build includes a number of minor interface tweaks and fixes it doesn’t include the company’s highly anticipated new browser just yet. There have been a number of tweaks to the underlying Trident rendering engine, however, and Microsoft has confirmed that Project Spartan will be included in the next build of Windows 10. Yesterday the company announced that Windows 10 will be available in the summer.…
