"Widespread apathy to the Grimsvotn Volcano eruption in Iceland is reflected by the Mild interest it raised in Google Trends. This demonstrates the weakness a story on the web if it does not include babes, cyberculture, or relationships. In other words, Iceland may regret that it is not led by a nefarious womanizer like Arnold Schwarzenegger." ~ Yasha Harari

The mouse is your physical link to the digital world. Yes the keyboard is there too. But more than any other device, the mouse is how your interact in a world of zeros and ones. But that world is getting more and more complex and the regular ol’ two button mouse with a track wheel can’t hold a candle to the new fancy track pads. That’s where the new Logitech MX Master wireless mouse comes in. It supports a lot of those track pad features and it has buttons. So many buttons. But the most important button is on the…

Slack is quietly, unintentionally killing IRC

Slack, the messaging tool for business that’s changing the way people talk at work, is gaining traction in areas that even the company itself didn’t anticipate: it’s quietly killing Internet Relay Chat (IRC). For many years, IRC was the chat solution of choice for communities looking to collaborate on open source projects or discuss a topic of common interest. Slack is slowly replacing IRC in many places, even though it’s not exactly set up to work for giant public rooms. The internet has started adopting it as the new standard, whether Slack likes it or not. I’ve noticed this trend over recent months in…

Google will reportedly let you pay bills in Gmail later this year

Pretty much everyone gets their bills by email nowadays, but what if you could pay right from your inbox too? Google is apparently working on that, according to a report by Recode. The tool is currently dubbed Pony Express. It’s likely that won’t end up being the final name, but we can hope. The documents Recode viewed showed a setup asking the user for personal information – including name, address and Social Security – to provide to a third party which would verify his or her identity. Depending on the bill, the user may have to provide a credit card…

White Label is a hip hop music discovery app that should be made for every genre

White Label is a music discovery app that charts the most popular hip-hop being listened to and discussed online daily. The app works by monitoring engagement between Twitter and SoundCloud hourly, allowing you to scroll down from a song you are playing to see ongoing discussions via Twitter. You can also join the conversation directly via White Label. All of the music being streamed is in full-version direct from SoundCloud as well. While there is an abundance of music streaming apps out there like Spotify and Deezer, this one is certainly more niche in its approach, the scope of the music it…

Facebook’s new ‘On This Day’ feature takes you down memory lane, Timehop-style

onthisday
You know those times you look through old Facebook photos and start to feel nostalgic? Well, Facebook wants to make that easier. The company is today introducing a new feature called “On This Day,” which basically helps you look back at old photos, posts and statuses from the same calendar date in years past. By default, only you can see your On This Day page, although you can of course share it with friends. You can also subscribe to notifications so that Facebook alerts you when you have special memories to pull up. The functionality is obviously very similar to…
