wolfram
Have you ever wondered how Wolfram Alpha works? If so, you’re in for a treat. Stephen Wolfram, the CEO of Wolfram Alpha, explains the algorithmic capabilities behind Wolfram Alpha. It is powered by massive data sets — so much that it cannot be simply retrieved from sources on the internet. Stephen Wolfram even states that “there actually isn’t enough data on the Web to get all of the things we need.” To make sense of the data, Wolfram Alpha must both compute custom answers (and not simply search for them), and of course, natural language processing plays a major role…

Adobe-Slatefeat
Adobe has gotten into the habit of segmenting its mobile iPad apps to serve both specific and disparate audiences. And in keeping with that emerging tradition, the company today released Adobe Slate, an iPad appfor iPad, a free consumer app that lets a range of business and educational users construct polished multi-part stories with high-quality images, text and layouts. Targeted to students, teachers, non-profits, small businesses, employees and photographers, Slate emerges as a sibling to Adobe Voice for iPad, an animated video creation tool released last year. Adobe hopes that Slate will build on Voice’s foundation for consumer creative apps. Like Voice, Slate features…

Rithm
Jay Z just bought a streaming service, but he may have bet on the wrong horse. A new player called Rithm wants to take on the likes of Spotify, TIDAL with lower subscription fees and social messaging. For $3.99 per month, users can stream all the tracks they want from Rithm’s library and share their favorite music with friends using the app’s integrated messaging feature. That’s far less than Tidal’s asking price of $19.99 per month, or even Spotify’s rate of $9.99 per month. The service — which has been in beta for a long while now — arrives today on iOS and Android,…
