Social mobile payment app Venmo received an update today that will finally allow users to add two-factor authentication for added account security. With 2FA turned on, Venmo will alert users when sign-in activity is detected from a phone or browser not previously used to log into their account. The app will then give users the option to receive a six-digit temporary code sent to their mobile number to sign in. Once log in is successful, they can opt to add the new browser or phone to their list of approved devices. For extra security on top of 2FA, you may also want to make…

How to put an end to workload paralysis

computer laptop work office
This article originally appeared on the Crew blog. We’re all busy. But sometimes we go through periods where the work piles up and it seems like it might never end. With the waxing and waning of my freelance work, a startup to manage, and side projects always on the go, this seems to happen to me all too often. So why is it that the busier I get, the less work I seem to do? Workload paralysis There seems to be a tipping point for me when I go from being really busy to so-busy-I’m-paralyzed-and-can’t-do-anything. When I have too much…

Following other major social networks and online platforms like Twitter and Dropbox, Snapchat has gone and released its first ever transparency report on government requests for user data. The data only covers a four-month period starting in November, but still provides some insight on how much information different governments are looking for. As usual, the US had by far the most requests: 375 out of 403. Snapchat produced some information for 92% of these requests. Other countries yielded 28 requests, for which information was produced for just 21% of them. The UK, France and Canada had the most of these,…

Gondola’s analytics tool for games takes the guesswork out of pricing in-app purchases

Gondola Feat Img
In-app purchases are an integral part of monetizing many a mobile game, so pricing them right is crucial. But what if developers could set their prices automatically, per player? Gondola is looking to do just that with its ‘Dynamic Pricing Engine.’ The tool analyzes a player’s progress through a game and will change prices based on his or her habits; the Dynamic Pricing Engine gradually tests the effects of various prices for the same goods on players with different levels of in-game progress. For example, players that are performing poorly in a game might see their prices reduced, whereas players…

Don’t be a jerk: Avoid the smartwatch

Blue Link Smartwatch

Pep Rosenfeld is co-founder of comedy theater Boom Chicago and Boom Chicago Creative in Amsterdam. He loves both nerd chic and chic nerds, and can be seen hosting events where they meet — like #TNW2015. Twenty years ago, I bumped into a friend on the L in Chicago. At some point, he pulled out a pocket watch, fob and all, checked the time, replaced the watch, and went back to our conversation. I thought I was the eccentric of the two of us, but his pocket watch made me feel positively suburban. He said he used to hate his relationship with his wristwatch. One part stressed out by…
