Girlboss launches its first-ever social network, a ‘LinkedIn’ for women

Not only is LinkedIn painfully boring, but it often feels like a sausage party filled with senior level white men. And research backs this up: in 2017, a study by LinkedIn revealed how sexist norms infiltrate the way men and women present themselves on LinkedIn. By analyzing over 141 million profiles in the US, it found women promote themselves and their successes a lot less than men do.  In a bid to give women a better professional platform, Girlboss CEO and Founder Sophia Amoruso launched the company’s first-ever, free social networking site — professional networking 2.0, dubbed as a “LinkedIn…

7 months after Hash Wars, Bitmain’s BTC.com appears to mine Bitcoin SV

BTC.com, the flagship mining pool of cryptocurrency firm Bitmain Technologies, appears to have started mining the Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV) blockchain once again – a likely controversial move. According to multiple blockchain explorers, BTC.com has mined roughly one percent of BSV blocks over the past 24 hours, and is currently contributing a relatively small hash rate of 4 petahashes per second to the network. Curiously, the rate of BSV blocks signed by BTC.com also seems to be increasing. BTC.com has been noticeably absent from BSV mining since last year’s wasteful Hash Wars, when Bitmain and Roger Ver (Bitcoin ABC) battled gambling figure Calvin Ayre…

A woman accused of running a Bitcoin-powered fake ID ring pleaded guilty on Tuesday after authorities busted the operation last year.  Among other charges, Sarah Alberts, 35, who is due to be sentenced on October 8, admitted to money laundering, reports say. Ohio-based co-defendants Mark Alex Simon, 35, and Aaron Kuns, 35, pleaded guilty, and are due to be sentenced on September 18. Prosecutors said the group made and sold the counterfeit driver licenses and personal identification cards on Reddit between June, 2013, and February, 2018. Payments were made using Bitcoin. Court documents say Simon processed orders and passed on…

The allure of fast profits from cryptocurrency appears to have been too great for one bank manager in India. The manager of a Standard Chartered branch, a private bank in India, has been arrested for running a cryptocurrency scam in which he promised unrealistic returns on a digital coin, Business Standard reports. The main perpetrator has been named as Sandeep Singh Dua. He confessed to the crimes during interrogation, according to Live Mint. Seven others have been arrested in connection with the scheme. The perpetrator admitted that he was part of a gang of racketeers that used fake shell companies…

iOS 13’s new FaceTime feature automagically fakes eye contact for you

Apple‘s latest software for iPhones, iOS 13, is packed with some nifty features like smart battery charging, Sign in with Apple, and better location tracking control. While the company has rolled out the public beta, it’s not done trying out new features. In its third developer beta, it’s introduced a FaceTime feature that will make you look like you’re directly looking into the camera, even if you’re looking at your screen. That’s some freaky shit right there. As an eagle-eyed app designer, Mike Rundle, pointed out on Twitter, this feature artificially re-adjusts your eyes to create an illusion for the other person…
