The Flair Signature Pro makes brewing delicious espresso easy, cheap, and portable

I never expected to become an amateur barista. A little over a year ago, I decided to stop spending so much money buying iced mochas at coffee shops and learn to make my own espresso-based drinks. It was around then that I reviewed Intact Idea’s Flair Espresso Maker, a sleek and portable brewing device that relied on level mechanics and a bit of arm strength to brew a cafe-quality shot of coffee – no electricity required. Despite a few caveats, it proved to me that I could pull an espresso at home to rival my favorite Brooklyn coffee spots without…

Ethereum still loved by dapp developers, but trails behind in active users

Ethereum might feature more decentralized apps (dapps) than any other blockchain, but its rivals are enjoying significantly higher usage. In fact, TRON dapps attracted more active users than any other network over the past three months, reports Dapp.com with new research. “484 new dapps were added to the market this quarter, and Ethereum is still the first choice for developers, followed by TRON and EOS,” said Dapp.com. “Newly launched blockchains like TomoChain and IOST are quickly expanding, but the first tier blockchains have already gone way ahead.” Dapp.com also announced a new record for active users in a single quarter had…

How to keep YouTube videos playing in the background on Android

Welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides, and advice on how to easily get the most out of your gadgets, apps, and other stuff. I love YouTube. I use it to watch videos, play tracks, and listen to podcasts. It has easily become my main source of entertainment. But there is one thing that rubs me the wrong way: YouTube doesn’t let you play videos on your phone in the background (or in lock screen). Fortunately, there is a pretty neat workaround you can use to bypass this restriction – and all you need is Telegram. Here is what you…

The Cowboy e-bike is so good I want to cycle with it off into the sunset

Jul03

I’m going to get straight to the point: I’ve tested out a few electric bikes in my time, and while I love the VanMoof Electrified 2 series, the Cowboy might be the best. Uh, Cowboy? Yep, it’s a Belgian company that makes electric bikes. The version I tested over the last month or so is the bike’s second iteration, but was still an engineering model. Despite this, I didn’t come across any huge, glaring flaws during my testing. Also, an interesting little fact before we begin, the company actually managed to get the cowboy.com URL. Lord knows how much that cost them.…

‘The world’s greatest email app’ is a privacy nightmare

Jul03
by Sindy Cator on July 3, 2019 at 2:42 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, Opinion

Superhuman bills itself as the world’s greatest email client. It should, given how much it costs; users of the app pay $30 a month for a subscription. It justifies that cost by being as feature complete as possible. It includes an array of keyboard shortcuts that expedite the most tedious parts of managing correspondence. And controversially, by default, it sends emails with an included tracking pixel. This allows the sender to see whether the recipient has opened an email. It also shows the time the email was opened, the recipient’s physical location, as well as the quantity of times an…
