Quotable

"DSK and Schwarzenegger have once again shown that the nature of Man is to reach great heights, and collapse. So too is the nature of massive state economies and bumbling NGOs fat on entitlements, especially when those are led by repeat sex offenders and philanderers." ~ Yasha Harari

networking
No matter what level of profession you’re in, networking is the fuel to accelerate your success. Not only is it useful for learning directly from individuals you meet, but the benefits of association and growing your own authority are just as powerful. For some of us, hearing the word “networking” can leave a bad taste in our mouths. Many of us aren’t sure where to start, what to say when we connect with someone, nor how to maintain that relationship. Although I truly believe there’s an art and science to networking and building authentic relationships, I’m going to distill what I’ve…

Demonii refuses to be censored after being forced to axe over 10,000 torrent hashes

Demonii, one of the largest BitTorrent trackers on the Web recently had to ban over 10,000 torrent hashes because of copyright-infringements. This is despite not actually offering torrents for download itself. Deomnii connects you to people who share their files on other sites like The Pirate Bay. Torrent hashes are used to verify the data that is being transferred. Every .torrent file that’s downloaded includes information on the size, type of file it is and what’s included in the download, so each of these are checked against the hash first to make sure it’s the correct file. According to TorrentFreak,…

What would be your name if you were born today?

name
Oh man, according to this funny little gizmo over at Time.com I would’ve been named Langston if I was born today, and Butler if I was born in 1910. Our own Amanda would have been called Isabella and Martin would be Harrison. Try it yourself and do let us know what your name would have been in the comments.

SpaceX is inviting us to Mars with some retro travel posters

SpaceX
SpaceX has released some vintage-style posters that are undoubtedly breaking hearts everywhere that we can’t hop on a spaceship to Mars for a vacation. If that is to happen in our lifetime, SpaceX will probably be the ones who make it happen though. The posters are in a similar style to the ones NASA released for the exoplanets discovered by Kepler in January. The first of SpaceX’s posters shows Valles Maineris, a series of canyons that runs east-to-west  for over 2,000 miles and is 3 miles deep at its deepest point. It’s believed that the canyons were caused by flowing…

The psychology behind color

color
If you squash every scene from the The Matrix into one image you’ll get something that looks like an old fuzzy TV screen. Look a little closer though and you’ll see the entire movie unfold, all without watching a single scene. As you scan from left to right and top to bottom the colors flip flop between dark greens and oranges and blues and purples. If you know the film’s plot even just vaguely you’ll be able to ‘watch’ it unfold just by following the changes in hues and tones: the colors themselves tell the story. This was no accident. The film uses…
