Netflix is not planning third-party ads for its online service

netflixfeat
When I launch my Netflix streaming account, the first thing I see is a trailer for the new Netflix series, Sense 8. On a different browser, I see a static description of the movie, The Prince. That description, along with two others can be rotated from the top of the screen. Those two different presentations on my computer browser, are examples of what Netflix is using to promote its content. What you will not see, according to Netflix spokesman Cliff Edwards, are third party ads that have no relation to Netflix content. The top promo autoplays in the browser, while the…

adobemix3d
Adobe has had its eye on 3D for years, and while 3D creation features have long been part of Photoshop, it’s no secret that it is still challenging terrain for designers. Adobe is hoping to advance ease of use in 3D workflows with its purchase of Mixamo, a company that specializes in 3D. Adobe plans to integrate Mixamo’s technology into Photoshop so designers can more easily create, customize, manipulate, rig and animate 3D objects as well as more easily employ ready-made components. Adobe’s research indicates that characters are a large growth category for 3D content and it envisions innovative uses for graphic design. According to…

stats-popular-all-time4
WordPress is introducing more powerful analytics with a new tool called Insights. The main new feature is the ability to tell you what times and days your website is most popular, for example 9:00AM and Tuesdays. One neat tool for independent publishers is the Posting Activity visualization, a sort of calender infographic describing the days you post most frequently. The deeper the blue, the more often you’ve posted. Meawhile, your old stats such as Comments, Followers, Tags & Categories and Publicize have also moved to the new insight page. Although other services already provide these sort of analytics, it’s nice…

Do you need a USB 3.0 drive the size of your thumbnail or a pocketable SSD? Doubtful, but you’re probably going to like SanDisk’s new drives just the same. The Ultra Fit USB 3.0 is about the size of the input found on any USB cable. SanDisk also managed to pack a surprising 128GB memory into the $120 Ultra Fit, all while delivering USB 3.0 transfer speeds. If tiny isn’t your thing, SanDisk is also unveiling the “World’s highest-performing portable SSD.” The Extreme 900 is billed as the fastest USB Type-C SSD on the market, delivering transfer speeds up to…

Greenpeace video highlights the danger of oil drilling in the Arctic

No matter what oil companies say, drilling on sensitive landscapes and seascapes is risky. Disasters happen, and when they do, pristine environments and sensitive wildlife are destroyed for generations — if not forever. Greenpeace, in partnership with Don’t Panic London, has released “A Song of Oil, Ice and Fire” that points a finger at Shell Oil’s plans to drill in the US Alaskan Arctic this summer. Its take-no-prisoners presentation outlines in stark terms what could happen if Shell Oil gets it rigs into the Arctic. The artworks include “Pearblossom Highway” by David Hockney, “Christina’s World” by Andrew Wyeth and “An Arctic Summer:…
