Apple’s new Music service will debut for everyone on June 30 and while it’s still early days, it means that Spotify, Rdio and other streaming services could be in for a big shock. The service has a huge advantage that many more labels than existing services will be onboard at launch, but there’s two big things that Apple has up its sleeve: it can get its service in front of people and won’t offer an eternal free plan. Spotify, which launched in 2006, has 60 million active users, with only 15 percent of them on a paid plan. That’s far too low for the…

If you haven’t seen the ridiculous Shia LaBeouf motivational video yet, you’ve probably been hiding under a rock for the last week. The actor stood in front of a green screen, loudly shouting motivational nonsense — “DO IT!! JUST DO IT!!” — to help students at a London arts college with their project. Naturally, when you’re famous and you hand out raw footage of yourself in front of a green screen, the internet remixes it in all sorts of bizarre ways. Now there’s a Chrome extension to help put that motivation right in your browser. Just install, click and you’ll DO IT in…

First shots were fired in 2013. That’s when Robert Scoble published his book on the rise of contextual computing: The Age of Context, citing Google Glass as the premier device of the new era. But it’s only now that Apple and Google – juggernauts defining the landscape of consumer technology – have started to move the frontlines. The battle for getting context right is on and its results will decide the future of mobile. Glass indeed promised a lot. But it flopped. Smart eyewear, designed to display information where and when needed, wasn’t smart enough to succeed. It was killed…

The merit of high bit rate music services like Tidal or devices like Pono are up for debate when the average person’s hearing may or may not be good enough to actually tell the difference between high or low-quality audio. Aumeo wants to change that with its gadget that tailors everything you listen to – music, TV, movies, gaming – to your own personal sound profile.   The company is launching the project on Indiegogo today looking to raise $40,000 in pursuit of better audio. At the time of writing, it had already raised more than $15,000 within 30 minutes…
