Dick Costolo ‘chose’ to step down as Twitter CEO like your childhood pet ‘chose’ to go to that magical farm upstate where all the aging animals go to live for ever and ever. He ‘chose’ to step down as Twitter CEO in the same way a mobster chooses to slip on a pair of cement shoes and dive into the Hudson. There are few things as unedifying as a corporate statement in the aftermath of a boardroom coup. And while Twitter will deny that there was anything but a magnanimous discussion that led to Jack Dorsey returning as CEO, it’s bunk.…

oculus-2
If you tuned into the Oculus Rift keynote address this morning, you saw a vast variety of uses for the Oculus Rift headset, from role-playing games to complete immersive environments. While this pre-E3 press event did not include any hands-on time with the hardware, Oculus wisely allowed the assembled journalists to drool over the new gear. We managed to squeeze off a few shots up close of the Oculus Rift and the brand new Oculus Touch controller. Check them out below. Read next: Oculus unveils the consumer Rift, due Q1 2016

coding
While being a mentor for a JavaScript Web development course, I’ve seen many beginner programmers jump into learning with enthusiasm and then immediately hitting a wall. Most of the students usually struggle with the same barriers. But once they learn to overcome them, they get instant benefits: they enjoy the learning experience much more they make progress faster they are more perseverant when getting stuck, thus giving up less easily they are more independent when writing code So what are these barriers that I’m talking about and how can you overcome them? 1. You don’t do it for the right…

Twitter is removing the 140 character limit in Direct Messages next month

twitter-dms
In its developer forum, Twitter has confirmed that it will no longer require Direct Messages to be in 140 characters and under. The announcement is initially targeted to developers so they can update their APIs to accept messages longer than 140 characters, if their products have a Twitter DM functionality. This update will not affect regular tweets, which will remain under the 140 character constraint. The DM update is scheduled to arrive some time in July, which should be helpful for when you’re privately chatting with other Twitter users, or talking to customer service accounts and need more characters to describe your situation. ➤ Twitter
