Circa, whose app and website tried to reimagine news stories as a stream of atomised elements, has announced that it’s shutting down. The company, co-founded by Matt Galligan, Ben Huh and Arsenio Santos, has failed to secure an acquirer. It confirmed back in April that it was seeking a buyer after moves to raise a Series A round stalled. The service ceased publishing stories on June 21. Fishing reduced endangered porpoise population to 97 http://t.co/PRUDblw0zz — Circa (@Circa) June 21, 2015 Sadly and ironically, its final story was about a plan to save an endangered porpoise. Unfortunately, Circa’s own attempts to prevent extinction…

Slack, the much buzzed about team communications service that’s shaking up business communications, has announced that it’s passed one million active users per day. The news comes just four months after the company shared that it had passed 500,000 daily active users. The growth is fast, but not unprecedented: over the same time period in 2010, Yammer saw similar growth hitting the 1 million mark within 18 months of launching. Those figures, however, were overall user signups and not how active its user base was. Since February, Slack has also grown its paid customers to 300,000, up from 135,000. The company opened up to the world for the…

Reddit
Reddit user Illyism has created Music Player for Reddit, an open source music player that turns subreddit links into playlists. It works by offering you an extensive list of subreddits on the left-hand side. Clicking on a link adds it to your playlist and gives you the most recently recommended songs as YouTube clips that run in the player. There are already over 280 subreddits being tracked by the site, so it’s a good way to discover new music. Illyism says on Reddit: “I made it because I liked listening to music on Reddit and wanted a better interface for it.” Read…
