Leaked memo indicates Nintendo to repair Joy-Con drift for free

Nintendo has apparently decided to start repairing Switch Joy-Con for free. This seems like a generous change of heart for the company, but it’s rather convenient that it’s happening now, just as players started turning up the heat over the flawed hardware. So-called “Joy-Con drift” has been plaguing Switch players since shortly after the console was released. In case you haven’t experienced it, it’s a distressing hardware problem that causes the Joy-Con’s analog sticks to start “drifting,” meaning the console would read movement from them even when the player wasn’t moving them. It’s distressingly common, even if no one seems…

Amazon’s 2019 Kindle Oasis brings better lighting but little else

Jul24

I’m going to keep this review short. Amazon’s new Kindle Oasis goes on sale today starting at $249, but in almost every respect, it’s identical to its 2017 predecessor. There is but one meaningful update: you can now change the screen color temperature, shifting it to warmer hues for both helping you sleep and matching ambient lighting. You can learn most of what you need to know from my review of its predecessor. It’s probably still the best ‘luxury’ e-reader out there, but there’s little reason to upgrade from the existing Oasis or Paperwhite, which both offer waterproofing and a…

Survey finds adults couldn’t care less about Facebook’s Libra ‘cryptocurrency’

Facebook Libra’s potential to help cryptocurrency go mainstream has been touted in recent weeks, but recent survey results indicate otherwise.  According to a poll conducted by CivicScience, which looked into general interest and public concerns surrounding Libra following the announcement of its launch, only five percent of 1,799 US adults surveyed expressed any level of interest in the proposed digital currency. In stark contrast, an overwhelming 86 percent said they were ‘not at all interested,’ while 10 percent seemed unsure. Unsurprisingly, those who said they were interested were younger, mostly belonging to the 18-to-24-year olds cohort. Additionally, 77 percent said they…

9 things you’ve got to stop doing in sales negotiations

Jul24
by Sindy Cator on July 24, 2019 at 3:09 pm

Think of all the times you need to negotiate: whether it’s a bidding war on eBay, a pay rise at work, selling your product or service to investors, or hammering out the terms of a contract. Everyone should know how to negotiate, but sometimes we make mistakes that can lose you the game. Of course, there are the obvious common mistakes people make during negotiations, from not building relationships, to not actually listening to feedback. But here are some lesser-known mistakes you probably make that hurt your position during negotiations.  #1. Go for a win-win situation When going into a…

Nobody knows when Bitcoin Satoshi Vision’s hard fork for 2GB blocks starts

Jul24
by Sindy Cator on July 24, 2019 at 2:51 pm
Posted In: Around the Web, blockchain, cryptocurrency, Hard Fork

Fledging blockchain Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV) is ready for a “hard fork” upgrade to increase the size limit of its blocks from 128MB to 2GB — but there’s confusion over when it’s actually supposed to occur. According to BitMEX Research (the analytic arm of cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX), BSV miners and nodes are likely confused over when the upgrade will initiate, as two different start times have been mistakenly provided. This is a problem. BSV nodes enforce the rules of the protocol, and must reject any BSV blocks that don’t match. If the miners don’t know the rules, they could start submitting…
