Japan’s new railway cameras can detect drunk passengers to help save lives

You absolutely do not want to drink and drive. But maybe you don’t want to take public transportation home either — at least not until you can walk a fairly straight line. When it comes to railway accidents, recent statistics from Japan are sobering. Between April 2013 and the following year, the government recorded 221 cases of passengers on platforms being hit by trains as folks with impaired perception either got too close to the edge or actually fell off.
