Women spoke just 27% of the lines in 2016’s biggest movies

2016 was the year of the strong female lead, or so we thought. From Jyn Erso to Harley Quinn, 2016 promised us a steady string of blockbuster hits this year featuring dynamic female characters in leading roles. Expectations were high, and Hollywood failed to deliver. According to number cruncher Amber Thomas, a self-professed “Professional Question Asker” and aspiring data scientist, the strong female leads we were promised in 2016 mostly took a backseat to their male counterparts.
