Instagram trademark filing shows it’s serious about crushing brand-abusive third parties

Just a few hours ago, Instagram’s lawyers in Germany filed a trademark application for the word ‘gram.’ It’s not the first trademark filing by the company in the EU. This year Instagram was awarded patents for nearly all of its filters. It also has pending trademark filings for ‘Insta,’ which is currently being opposed. Back in 2013, Instagram changed its terms of use to block third party apps from using the word ‘Insta’ or ‘Gram’ in the title. Seems that’s working out well.
