Apple patent shows how home button on future iPhones and iPads may be like a trackpad

A new patent filing from Apple suggests the home button on future iPhones and iPads may have 3D Touch, and act like a virtual mouse. Apple is exploring the idea of bringing some sort of depth sensing technology to the home button, which could mean forceful presses will do more than go back to the home screen or wake the display.
