Seeing the world through the perspective of a self-driving car is undeniably cool. ScanLAB Projects did just that by strapping LIDAR (light detection and ranging) equipment to a Honda CR-V and using it to detail the world as an autonomous vehicle would see it. The car, in this case, was being driven by a human, but the LIDAR equipment performed just as it would on a driverless car. The LIDAR fires a laser in every direction and then uses sophisticated electronics to measure the time it takes to bounce off surrounding objects.
